When it comes to contemporary art collections, what comes to mind first? Celebrity artists, high-priced artworks, and the unpredictable art market. A World War II bunker built in Berlin seems to have no connection with any of these words. However, inside the bunker lies one of the most important contemporary art collections today — the Boros Collection (Sammlung Boros). The Bunker Berlin occupies an area of ​​2,800 square meters in the center of Berlin. Established by the Christian and Karen Boros, the Bunker Berlin houses over 200 carefully selected works, which are just a part of the collection the Boros have built over the past 30 years. Collector Christian Boros is the founder of the BOROS advertising agency in Germany, while Karen Boros, with a background in art history, has worked for Art Basel in Switzerland. Since 2006, the Boros couple has been regulars on the list of top collectors worldwide. In 2019, the author visited Bunker Berlin and chatted with Karen Boros about the unique history of the museum's architecture and the challenges of independently operating the Boros Collection.
